RESEARCH AND METALLURGY: DEVELOPMENT OF PARTICLE REINFORCED ALUMINIUM COMPOSITE
The paper is focused on development of a particulate strengthened aluminium composite using aluminosilicate (kankara clay) as the particulate to impact on the properties of aluminium metal which has application in the automotive industry. With high purity aluminium and aluminosilicate particles, suitable grade of aluminium composite is produced. The physical properties highlighted was attributed to the formation of a coherent and uniform precipitation of the second phase in the matrix of the metal, resulting in increase of the dislocation density at the particle-matrix interfaces. It is concluded that the strength is well enhanced with the addition of aluminosilicate. Investigation of matrix-particle interface using high resolution instrument is recommended and the other properties such as fatigue and creep test should be investigated on the material.
