RE -STRUCTURING TECHNICAL EDUCATION FOR CREATIVITY AND SELF EMPOWERMENT IN KOGI STATE

Abstract

This paper attempts to present Technical Education as a field of study where academic knowledge acquired in Science and Technology can be used or applied in providing solutions to real life problems. This type of education encompasses academic and vocational preparation of students for jobs and to be self reliant career wise. The importance of the paper is to stress the need for the restructuring or remodification of Technical Education. If such is done, there will be rapid improvement in youth activities. One other result of restructuring Technical Education is that there will be reduction in youth unemployment as many youths who are its graduates will no longer wait for the unavailable white-collar jobs but be self reliant. Above all, the paper analysis and presents what Technical Education is, the effects of restructuring it and its impact on Kogi State youth. Finally, recommendations are provided for improving skill acquisition, creativity and innovative
needs of youth in Kogi State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
