TECHNOLOGY USAGE FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING SCIENCES IN KOG I STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (TECHNICAL) KABBA, AMIDST COVID-19 PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS

Abstract

This research work examines the roles of technology, its challenges and prospects in teaching and learning sciences amidst the Corona virus Covid-19 pandemic. A descriptive survey was used for the study and the instrument for data collection was observation checklist and  questionnaire. In analysing the data, statistical analysis such as percentage scores and tables were used. The findings of the study highlighted that online learning with apps like WhatsApp Web and Zoom Cloud on Android are mostly disrupted by power outage, unavailability of  nstructional materials, Unconducive environment, unskilful usage of media devices, and students from lower socio-economic backgrounds are deficient in the usage of online teaching platforms to achieve the desired results. Most students of social interaction or face-to-face interaction with the instructor, socialization of traditional classroom and absence of immediate response time constitute a major challenge in the usage of technology for online teaching and learning amidst Covid-19 Pandemic.
